The people have been wearing masks for as long as they can remember, the act of covering one's face being the only thing that keeps them safe from the demons of the realm. The only people that don't need them are the ones capable of protecting themselves with their voices alone, known as Lyrebirds, who are thought to have enchanted vocal cords. Many Lyrebirds are bound to nobles and royalty, living lives of servitude, and while Lyra has an exceptionally powerful voice, she is no exception to this, being bound to the princess of the kingdom she was born in.

It's said that seeing someone without their mask on is more personal than seeing them without clothes, and when Lyra sees Princess Melodie without her mask, things get a little more complicated than she ever could've realized...
